A Day in the Life of a Toddler

7.30- 9pm Early Morning Free Play and Breakfast

9-11am During this period the children are provided with opportunities to participate in child led and adult led activities. This involves all sorts of exciting activities such as exploring our Africa themed section or mark making with different textures including oats and lentils. Early Years Workers carry out planned activities with their Key children during this time. Each Early Years Worker is delegated an area of learning and will focus on that area for a week.
Snack is available for the children and they are involved in its preparation. The children are encouraged to peel their own oranges to develop their motor skills and encourage independence. Nappy changing and toileting children happen throughout this period.
Outdoor Play is at 10am. The children will experience new learning opportunities in a natural environment. The children normally put on their coats and Wellington’s at the decking area.  Once ready for adventure, our children are encouraged have fun and explore the outdoor environment. Some children may choose to go on a bug hunt and look for bugs and worms, others may splash in the puddles or creep inside one of our cosy dens.

11-11.30 The children join together in two small groups (uppers and lowers) and participate in circle games and a story.

11.30-12 Lunch Period: The children sit in groups around the tables or in the low chairs with staff supporting and assisting in developing social skills. The food served at mealtimes is all prepared fresh on sight on the day the menu reflects healthy nutritious meals for example Beef Bourguignon served with fresh veg and mashed potato, followed by pancakes.

12-2pm Children are provided with an opportunity to sleep within the Toddler Hall. Those who wish not to sleep will spend 12 until 12.30 outside and when they come in they may choose from a range of activities
Snack is made available from 1.30 until they go outside to play at 2.30
2-3pm During this period the children are provided with opportunities to participate in child led and adult led activities. 3.30-4pm Tea Period: The children sit in groups around the tables or in the low chairs with staff supporting and assisting in developing social skills. A light tea is served such as Butternut squash soup followed by fresh fruit or a yoghurt. We offer a light tea so that the children can eat at home with their families.
4-6pm Child Led Play and a drink is made available at 5pm.
